Crackington Haven is a picturesque little village seven miles south-west of Bude. It is popular with geologists, walkers, and people who like to camp or caravan.
It is a great place to stop off if exploring by car or on foot.
Crooklets beach is famous for being the home of the first ever life saving club in the UK. It is popular with surfers and other beach-goers and at low tide you can walk from Crooklets to Summerleaze beach.
There are two cafes at the beach, Crooklets cafe and Rosies which is a great all rounder having a soft play area, plenty of food and beverage choices and the odd live band. There is also The Crooklets Inn which provides a good pit stop. Beach huts are available to hire by day and by week.
Walking from Sea Jade to Crooklets will take you around five to ten minutes.
Another hidden gem for surfers and walkers alike is Duckpool beach. It has a nice break when the conditions are right and you are very unlikely to find the beach busy with surfers or beach-goers.
It is a little hard to find so we can help you with the directions. It is another very picturesque spot and we have been told has interesting geology.
Millook is located south of Widemouth beach and is one of the hidden gems of the area.
Northcott Mouth is a large pebble beach that exposes a large sand beach at low tide. It is a hidden gem of a surf spot.
Sandymouth is located a couple of miles north of Bude and is accessible by the coastal path which provides a very scenic walk. It usually is not too crowded with surfers and offers an alternative to the larger beaches of Bude. It has 2 very scenic waterfalls.
There is a Snack Caravan wiith a seating area just above the beach which offers amazing views and the chance to recharge your batteries. Sandymouth also has a very nice cafe serving food and drink all day with a pretty decking area overlooking the beach.
Stangles beach is near Crackington Haven and is a large shingle beach with plenty of sand at low tide. The Strangles beach is always quiet all year round due to a difficult climb down to the beach.
Summerleaze is the closest beach to Sea Jade, it is an easy five minute walk with your surf board under your arm. It has a car park, lifeboat station, showers, toilets, shops, cafe and the lovely 'lifes a beach' restaurant with its great views accross the beach and beyond. Summerleaze is a family friendly beach and has a large sea pool giving lots of shelter, there are also plenty of attractive rock pools.
Widemouth Bay is the longest beach in the Bude area. It is a haven for surfers and all other water sports activites. It is never too crowded as it is comfortably long.
There is a large car park, cafe, toilets, showers. Also over the road from the car park is Trelawney tea rooms which serve excellent food.
Black Rock splits Widemouth Bay beach and tends to be a little quieter. There are a couple of excellent restaurants nearby. (Elements and the Bay View Inn).
When the towns beaches and waves are busy Widemouth Bay has more room for surfers and generally is the better option.
